The first thing to notice is that there is only one occurrence of IFS; this single function takes as its arguments multiple logical-test and value-if-true pairs.

So, we proceed exactly as we did in the last chapter when discussing nested IFs. We start with the highest value and test whether the days overdue is greater than or equal to 120.

The value-if-true would be “Bad”; but, since days overdue is 20, this first test proves to be FALSE. We therefore move onto the next value down; and we continue in this way until we have eliminated >=90, >=60 and >=30.

If none of our tests proves to be TRUE, it is very important to note that there is no catch-all value which can be used as a default value-if-false. You simply continue with the same logical-test/value-if-true structure (up 227 times).

So, in our example, we will need to do a fifth and final test, to explicitly cater for the circumstance when the days overdue is less than 30.
